Long Term Relief from Lower Back Pain

The use of acupuncture to treat lower back pain has increased dramatically. Placebo-controlled studies have validated acupuncture as a safe, effective and reliable method of pain relief. Positive therapeutic outcomes can be expected for up to six months or longer - without the many side effects of pain medications.

Our acupuncture treatments offer relief from the misery of many similar conditions such as sciatica, degenerative disc disease, lumbar strain, prolapsed intervertebral disc.

Needles are inserted locally near the site of pain, however, needles may also be inserted in other locations such as legs, feet and hands. Acupuncturist Dr Helen Trill is very experienced in the treatment of lower back pain, and will often also use a mixture of related treatments to provide a tailor-made program.

How Many Sessions will I Need?

This will vary depending on the nature of your back pain, its duration and your constitution. A standard course of treatments is 6-10 sessions, though ocassionally further treatments are required for long term results.

Longer appontments may include a mixture of acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, cupping therapy (creating a vacuum), moxibustion (gentle heat), assisted stretching, and massage (various methods). Helen is also a qualified Pilates teacher and likely to recommend some gentle stretching and core strength exercises between treatments and beyond. All of the therapeutic interventions mentioned have been proven as effective treatments for lower back pain. Helen has gained enormous insight into the management of lower back pain.
